Initiatives in Product Design

Packaging plays an important role in maintaining product quality and encouraging customer purchases. Mizkan has identified the improvement of essential product packaging with greater consideration for the environment as a key theme and is actively advancing related initiatives.

Lightweight containers and recycling

Mizkan promotes the effective use of resources by reducing container weight and advancing recycling initiatives. For example, by shifting from glass bottles to PET bottles, we have achieved an overall reduction in container weight. This has made it possible to reduce energy consumption during product transportation as well as CO₂ emissions. In addition, for selected diluted vinegar drinks, ponzu sauce, and sushi vinegar products, Mizkan has switched to environmentally conscious recycled PET bottles through horizontal recycling initiatives. These efforts contribute to waste reduction and the circulation of resources.

Cap design renewal

Mizkan has renewed the cap design for the Kin no Goma Dare (Sesame Sauce) series to achieve both improved usability and environmental consideration. The new cap structure allows the inner seal to be removed at the same time as opening, helping to prevent dripping and reduce plastic usage. Through this initiative, plastic usage has been reduced by approximately 38%, promoting the sustainable use of resources. The reduction in plastic also contributes to lower CO₂ emissions. By improving consumer convenience while considering the global environment, Mizkan continues to advance environmentally responsible product development.
