Mizkan Center for Water Culture (Archive)
Since its founding, the Mizkan Group has maintained a close relationship with water. In order to produce high-quality brewed vinegar, we built water supply infrastructure and sailed vinegar through waterways and across the sea, transporting its products from Handa in Owari to Edo and Osaka.
Building on this long-standing relationship with water, the Mizkan Group established the Mizkan Center for Water Culture in 1999. For more than 25 years, the Center conducted research and disseminated information under the theme of the relationship between people and water, communicating the importance of water to society.
The activities of the Mizkan Center for Water Culture concluded in December 2025. However, the knowledge and perspectives cultivated through these initiatives will continue to be reflected in the Mizkan Group’s ongoing efforts to value and responsibly use water resources.

Water Culture Journal
The Water Culture Journal explores the diverse aspects of “water culture” ? the culture born from the intersection of water and people. Published three times a year, the journal highlights the knowledge and unique local customs that arise from our relationships with water and with each other.

“Discover Water Culture” Events
From time to time, the center holds events where participants can discover our connection to water through guided walks and cruises in waterfront areas.

Water-Themed Exhibitions
The center holds water-themed pop-up exhibitions at the MIZKAN MUSEUM™ to introduce its activities and highlight the importance of water. In August 2018, the center held a “Water School” fun event for elementary school children and their parents. In September 2018, the center put on a “Water School Festival” to illustrate the benefits of the water around us through waterfront scenery.

“Being grateful for water and raising awareness about its importance”
With this in mind, we will act for the well-being of the earth, society, and all that dwell on it.
That is what drives us.
